The catalogue on which the artist realized the work was published on the occasion of his solo exhibition at the "Manifattura dei Gobelins" in Paris in 1969. The artwork is accompanied by the handwritten letter that Mathieu, on October 25, 1969, addressed to his friend Jean Laurent, to whom the drawing is dedicated.
